Romania extends deadlines for regional emergency hospitals

The Romanian government has approved an amendment to financing contracts with the European Investment Bank (EIB) to extend the completion deadlines for three regional emergency hospitals in Iași, Cluj, and Craiova.

The new completion dates are set for December 2029 for the hospitals in Iași and Cluj, and May 2029 for the hospital in Craiova. The extension is attributed to updated implementation schedules and delays encountered during procurement procedures and construction works.

The total value of the three loans contracted by Romania is 923 million euros, distributed as follows: 250 million euros for the Iași hospital, 305 million euros for the Cluj hospital, and 368 million euros for the Craiova hospital. To date, 184.6 million euros have been drawn from these funds. The amendment also aims to flexibilize the loan drawdown process and update contractual provisions without increasing Romania’s financial obligations to the EIB.
