Romania faces heightened stress and water scarcity risks

Analyst Mihnea Predețeanu warned that Romanians are experiencing a higher level of anxiety than their Western European neighbours, citing the proximity of armed conflict, internal problems and economic pressure. He said, "If you open a news site, the internet, TV, you see only problems – from orphanages in Bihor to drones in the Constanța port – all these threats affect us, not only in Romania but across Europe. Spain, Italy, Germany do not feel the pressure we feel as citizens."

A separate report highlighted that Romania is among the EU states with the greatest risk of water stress this summer, with 34% of its freshwater resources currently being used, well above the 20% warning threshold. The European Environment Agency notes that climate change and drought are expected to increase the frequency and impact of water shortages across the region, affecting public health and daily life.
