Romania: Five senators join PSD parliamentary group

Five senators previously elected on the lists of S.O.S. Romania and POT have joined the Social Democratic Party (PSD) parliamentary group in the Romanian Senate. The senators include Ionel Carp and Cristian Bem from S.O.S. Romania, as well as Valentina Aldea, Liviu Sorin Robe, and Robert Daniel Ghiță from POT.

These political shifts follow the dissolution of the Pace Întâi România parliamentary group, which failed to maintain the minimum requirement of seven members after several senators departed. The influx of new members strengthens the PSD's position in the legislature, bringing their Senate membership to 40.

Following these transfers, the current Senate composition stands as follows: PSD with 40 members, AUR with 30, PNL with 27, USR with 18, UDMR with 10, and 9 unaffiliated members. A majority of 68 votes is required in the Senate to adopt organic laws.
