Romania hosts Syriac studies symposium and international religious youth gathering

In August 2026, several religious and cultural events took place in Romania. An international symposium on Syriac studies was held in Bucharest, marking the first time an Orthodox country hosted this event in Eastern Europe. The symposium focused on the theological and cultural value of Syriac spirituality, including discussions on the role of holy images and icons in non-Chalcedonian churches, such as the Coptic, Armenian, and Syriac Orthodox traditions.

Additionally, a religious gathering for youth titled ‘My radiance is in Thee!’ was held in Câmpulung Moldovenesc from August 21 to 24. The event brought together young people from Oradea, Iași, and Ukraine for prayer, formation, and community building. Led by various priests, the gathering emphasized spiritual connection and fraternity across different languages and cultures through activities such as the Holy Liturgy and Lectio Divina.
