Romania hosts various literary and cultural book events

Various cultural and literary events are taking place across Romania, highlighting the state of reading and book culture in the country.

In Târgoviște, the Book Salon has opened as part of the City Days celebrations. The event featured the launch of ‘Utopie și comunism’ by Cristina Alexandru-Dinu, published by Editura Tritonic. The book provides an analysis of the relationship between utopian ideals and the historical practice of communist regimes. The event drew academics, researchers, and local cultural figures.

In Târgu Jiu, Cărturești is organizing a ‘Silent Reading Party’ at Masa Tăcerii on September 12. The event, part of the ‘Movement for Reading’ national tour, features actress Maia Morgenstern. Participants will engage in collective reading to honor the 150th anniversary of Constantin Brâncuși’s birth. Morgenstern will also participate in a public meeting to discuss her relationship with literature and her memoir volumes.

Additionally, in Târgu Jiu, Florin Priescu has operated a street antiquarian stall for over two decades. His small, improvised bookstore on Unirii Street offers affordable books ranging from literature to religious texts, serving as a local landmark for those seeking physical books.
