Romania housing completions rise 30% in first half of 2026

Romania has seen a significant surge in housing completions during the first half of 2026. According to data from the National Institute of Statistics (INS), a total of 31,958 dwellings were completed, marking a 30% increase compared to the same period in 2025.

The growth accelerated in the second quarter, with 20,082 units completed between April and June, representing a nearly 47% increase over the 13,647 units completed in the second quarter of 2025. Urban areas accounted for approximately 63.9% of these completions.

The Bucharest-Ilfov region experienced the most substantial growth, with 6,946 dwellings completed in the second quarter, an increase of 3,745 units compared to the previous year. This represents a 117% increase in housing deliveries for the region during the second quarter.

Residential construction remains almost entirely driven by private funding. Of the 20,082 units completed in the second quarter, 19,957 were financed through private funds, while only 125 were funded by public resources.
