Romania identifies Russian-coordinated sabotage network

The Romanian Intelligence Service (SRI) and the Directorate for Investigating Organized Crime and Terrorism (DIICOT) have identified a sabotage network coordinated from the Russian Federation. The group is linked to a fire that occurred on September 14, 2026, at the Carfil industrial platform in Brașov, located near the armament manufacturer CARFIL SA, a subsidiary of the state-owned company CN ROMARM.

Investigators have implicated three foreign nationals residing in the European Union: two Belarusian citizens and one Ukrainian citizen. Two suspects were arrested in Germany while allegedly preparing similar incidents, and a third suspect has been located in Poland. The Bucharest Court of Appeal has issued European arrest warrants for the individuals, and Romanian authorities are seeking their extradition.

According to the SRI, the network's activities were not limited to Romania. Coordinators in Russia had established a list of regional targets, including both state and private armament production facilities, as well as other military and industrial objectives. The SRI stated that this case is part of a broader campaign of Russian-coordinated sabotage operations across Europe aimed at intimidating states and weakening regional security and defense capabilities.
