Romania implements new media access rules for infrastructure sites

The National Company for Road Infrastructure Administration (CNAIR) and the Ministry of Transport have announced new regulations governing media visits to active infrastructure construction sites in Romania.

Under the new rules, journalists can no longer unilaterally determine the date and time of documentation visits. Instead, access must be organized in advance through consultation with the contractor executing the works. The ministry stated that scheduling must account for ongoing construction activities, specific site conditions, and the necessity of ensuring maximum safety for visitors.

Access is strictly conditional upon following health and safety procedures, including mandatory training and the use of required personal protective equipment. While the ministry cited occupational safety and the prevention of activity disruption as primary justifications, the decision has faced criticism from online commentators who argue the measures could hinder the oversight of projects funded by public money.
