Romania imposes extensive traffic restrictions on Transfăgărășan and DN1 in July

On July 6, 2026, major traffic restrictions will be enforced on the DN7C – Transfăgărășan route in the Bâlea‑Lac area as part of the Transfăgărășan Challenge and the COBYX Collection – Romanian Tour 2 auto event. Closures will affect the tunnel and several segments between Bâlea Lac, Bâlea Cascadă, and Cabana Vama Cucului, with specific time windows ranging from 07:30‑18:00 for the tunnel to 09:00‑13:30 and 13:30‑18:00 for other sections.

Additional restrictions are planned on DN1 in Sibiu and Brașov counties for the Turul Ciclist al Sibiului 2026. On July 4 and 5, short closures will affect sections between Săcel, Miercurea Sibiului and Cristian, with limited windows of a few minutes each. On July 6, further DN1 restrictions will occur between Voila and Sâmbăta de Jos in Brașov. Drivers are advised to avoid the affected routes, follow police directions, and consider alternative paths, especially during the peak tourist season.
