Romania introduces household vouchers to formalize domestic work

Romania is implementing a new household voucher system designed to regulate occasional domestic work, such as cleaning, cooking, and caregiving. This mechanism aims to transition informal labor into a formal, contributory sector by providing a simplified digital platform for payments and tax tracking.

Under the new framework, domestic service providers will be remunerated through 15 lei vouchers. This system automatically handles tax contributions, granting workers access to pensions and medical insurance. The initiative is intended to reduce the informal economy and increase tax collection while minimizing bureaucracy for both beneficiaries and service providers.
