Romania Justice Ministry initiates institutional reforms
The Romanian Ministry of Justice has launched a series of institutional reforms aimed at restructuring the penal and victim protection systems. A working group has been established to reorganize the National Administration of Penitentiaries (ANP) and the National Probation Directorate (DNP). This group is tasked with analyzing the legal, administrative, and budgetary implications of integrating the DNP within the ANP, with a final report due by December 1.
Additionally, the Ministry is preparing to establish the National Agency for Victim Protection. This new institution, which would operate under the Ministry of Justice, aims to consolidate existing institutional competencies to reduce fragmentation and territorial disparities in support services. The initiative seeks to provide a coherent protection system for all crime victims, regardless of the type of offense or location, by establishing unified quality standards and ensuring sustainable funding.
