Romania keeps 2026 public‑sector vacation vouchers at 800 lei as travel costs climb

Public‑sector employees in Romania will continue to receive vacation vouchers worth 800 lei in 2026, but the number of eligible staff will shrink. The eligibility ceiling was lowered from a net monthly salary of 8,000 lei to 6,000 lei, removing a segment of workers who previously qualified. The new rules also eliminate the requirement for voucher holders to contribute an equal amount toward a tourist package, meaning the vouchers are now fully funded by the state budget.

At the same time, a price guide for the summer of 2026 shows that Romanian families face higher costs for week‑long trips to popular destinations such as Bulgaria, Greece, Turkey and Spain. Inflation in the European hospitality sector has pushed accommodation and travel prices upward, prompting travelers to weigh quality, comfort and price more carefully when planning vacations.

Both developments reflect tighter fiscal conditions for the Romanian government and rising consumer expenses for holiday travel.
