Romania Labor Code: Paid leave rights for family events
Under the Romanian Labor Code, employees are entitled to paid leave for specific family events, which is separate from their standard annual leave. For those in the public sector, five days of leave are provided for an employee's own marriage.
In cases involving the birth or marriage of a child, or the death of a spouse or close relative, three days of leave are granted. While events such as a child's baptism or moving house are not automatically covered by the Labor Code, private companies may choose to include them in their internal regulations or collective bargaining agreements.
To claim these days, employees must submit a formal request to their employer and may be required to provide supporting documentation, such as marriage, birth, or death certificates.
