Romania Labor Code regulations for employee leave
Under the Romanian Labor Code, employees are entitled to various types of leave for family events, emergencies, or personal matters. The legal classification of the absence determines whether the leave is paid, requires time recovery, or is unpaid.
For unforeseen family emergencies caused by illness or accident that require immediate presence, employees may be absent for up to 10 working days per calendar year. This requires prior notification to the employer, and the missed hours must be recovered through a mutually agreed-upon method.
Paid leave for specific family events, such as marriage or the death of a relative, is regulated by law, collective bargaining agreements, or internal company regulations. Additionally, employees have the right to request unpaid leave for personal reasons, the duration of which is determined by internal regulations or collective labor contracts.
