Romania labor market: Interest in working abroad hits 10-year low

Interest in working abroad among Romanians has reached its lowest level in ten years, according to data from eJobs. Since January, fewer than 55,000 applications have been recorded for international positions, representing just 0.6% of total platform registrations.

This shift is attributed to a narrowing wage gap between Romania and Western Europe, particularly in technical and management sectors. Additionally, the rising cost of living in Western countries and the increasing availability of international project-based work that can be performed remotely from within Romania have reduced the incentive to relocate.

The demographic most likely to still seek employment abroad consists of mid-level professionals aged 25 to 35 with two to five years of experience, followed by those aged 36 to 45.
