Romania labor market shows imbalance in job vacancies

Romania is experiencing a structural imbalance in its labor market, with a significant portion of job vacancies targeting low-skilled workers. Out of 30,409 reported vacancies nationwide, 16,101 are designated for individuals without formal studies or with only primary and lower secondary education.

Recruitment is heavily concentrated in logistics and distribution, specifically for truck drivers (3,009 vacancies), couriers (2,019), and cargo handlers (1,301). Other high-demand roles include construction workers, security agents, and carpenters. This trend places increased pressure on companies to retain highly skilled technical and administrative staff, as the volume of recruitment remains focused at the base of the educational pyramid.

In the railway sector, CFR SA and CFR Călători have announced new hiring processes following the conclusion of recent competitions. Meanwhile, Romania's unemployment rate stood at 6.3% in June 2026, which is higher than the European Union average of 6.0% reported by Eurostat.
