Romania launches eIdentity service for controlled data sharing

The Romanian Ministry of Internal Affairs has launched a new digital service called eIdentity, designed to provide holders of Electronic Identity Cards (CEI) with greater control over their personal data.

Integrated into the Ministry's HUB, the system allows users to selectively disclose specific information rather than sharing an entire identity document. For example, a user can prove their age by sharing only their date of birth through a QR code that remains valid for 10 minutes, reducing the exposure of sensitive data. This initiative aligns with European Union data protection standards, such as the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), to mitigate risks associated with data breaches and identity abuse.
