Romania solar energy sector sees growth and regulatory shifts

Romania's energy sector is seeing significant developments in solar energy adoption and regulatory shifts. PPC Energie has launched a campaign to equip at least 15 schools with photovoltaic systems and battery storage, incentivized by customers switching to electronic billing.

In the commercial and industrial (C&I) segment, SAJ Electric reports a sharp increase in demand for battery storage systems over the last six months, as clients move toward integrated solutions involving inverters and AI-driven management to optimize consumption and peak shaving.

On the regulatory front, ANRE is planning to implement licensing for energy trading activities by 2027 to professionalize the market. Meanwhile, the Association of Prosumers and Energy Communities is advocating for new building regulations that would require new constructions to function as solar energy producers, similar to models in Germany and Sweden.

For residential users, experts emphasize the importance of seasonal maintenance for solar panels and boilers to ensure efficiency, as well as the strategic use of smart appliances to maximize solar self-consumption.
