Romania launches free cancer screening for vulnerable groups

Various regional health initiatives in Romania are providing free cancer screening programs specifically targeting vulnerable and socio-economically disadvantaged populations.

In Năvodari, the ROCCAS 4 SE project is offering free colorectal cancer screening for eligible individuals aged 50 to 74. This initiative, implemented by the Sfântul Apostol Andrei Constanța County Emergency Clinical Hospital in partnership with the Romanian Association for Health Promotion, focuses on marginalized communities and those with limited medical access. Participants receive risk assessments, FIT tests, and support for follow-up colonoscopies and treatments.

In the Mureș region, the CLARA project, led by the “Carol Davila” University of Medicine and Pharmacy in Bucharest, provides free cervical cancer screening for women aged 25 to 65 facing socio-economic difficulties. The program includes medical insurance-less individuals, persons with disabilities, and members of marginalized communities. Funded largely by the European Social Fund Plus, the project offers information sessions, diagnostic tests, and medical and social support for confirmed cases.
