Romania launches household finance survey and teacher education workshops
The National Bank of Romania (BNR), in collaboration with the National Institute of Statistics (INS) and the Institute for Research and Evaluation of Strategy (IRES), is conducting the “Household Financing and Consumption” statistical research. Running from May to December 2026, this initiative is part of the European Household Finance and Consumption Survey (HFCS) coordinated by the European Central Bank. The study aims to gather data on household income, consumption, credit, savings, and real estate or financial assets to provide a representative view of the economic situation in Romania compared to other European nations.
In a separate effort to improve financial literacy, the BNR, the Ministry of Education and Research, the Romanian Association of Banks, and the Bank Deposit Guarantee Fund organized the third edition of the “Financial Education Workshops for Teachers” project. Between June and September 2026, 25 workshops were held across 21 cities, reaching over 600 educators. The program covers topics such as personal budget management, savings strategies, credit products, modern payment tools, and fraud risks. This initiative is part of the National Financial Education Strategy (2024-2030), utilizing teachers as key vectors for educating students on economic concepts.
