Romania school leadership contests and appointments underway
Romania is undergoing a significant reorganization of school leadership as various county school inspectorates manage the transition of directors and deputy directors for the 2026-2027 academic year.
In Bistrița-Năsăud, over 130 leadership positions have been filled through temporary appointments to ensure continuity until formal contests are held. Meanwhile, in Argeș, Caraș-Severin, and Gorj, large-scale national contests have been announced to fill hundreds of vacant director and deputy director roles. These contests follow the expiration of previous mandates and are governed by Ministry of Education and Research regulations.
The selection process involves multiple stages, including competency evaluations, written exams, and interviews. Eligible candidates must be permanent teachers with at least five years of experience and high performance ratings. In Suceava, the school inspectorate is also seeing personnel changes, with several veteran inspectors retiring or returning to teaching, replaced by new professional proposals.
