Romania launches online criminal record and integrity certificate services

Romanian citizens can now obtain criminal record certificates and behavioral integrity certificates online through the hub.mai.gov.ro platform. This digital service, part of the ‘MAI DIGITAL’ project, is provided by the Ministry of Internal Affairs and the Romanian Police.

The criminal record certificate can be requested by individuals who validate their accounts via the platform, ghiseul.ro, or using electronic identity cards and the ROeID application. Once the request is submitted, the system automatically generates an electronically signed document that can be downloaded directly from the user's account.

Separately, the behavioral integrity certificate has been introduced to verify whether an individual is registered in the national database of persons who have committed sexual offenses, exploitation, or crimes against minors. This document is intended to protect minors and vulnerable persons by ensuring those with relevant convictions do not hold positions involving direct contact with these groups. The digital certificate carries the same legal weight as a paper version.
