Romania limits August visits to Sarmizegetusa Regia to weekends for restoration

The Dacian citadel Sarmizegetusa Regia in the Orăștie Mountains will be open to visitors only on Saturdays and Sundays during August, from 09:00 to 20:00. Weekday access is suspended while restoration work on the site’s Terrace X and fortified area proceeds.

The Hunedoara County Council (CJ Hunedoara) announced the temporary restriction to ensure safety and allow the €11.3 million (including VAT) project, financed by European Union funds, to advance quickly and to high standards. The works include consolidation of the Great Andesite Temple and reinforcement of supporting walls.

The council thanked visitors for their understanding and invited them to explore “the capital of Dacia” during the weekend openings.
