Romania marks historical political anniversaries
Romania marks significant historical anniversaries regarding its political landscape. On October 10, the centenary of the founding of the National Peasants' Party (PNŢ) is observed. The party was formed following a merger between the Peasants' Party, led by Ion Mihalache, and the National Romanian Party, led by Iuliu Maniu, during a congress held in Bucharest in 1926. The PNŢ held government power between 1928 and 1933 and later re-emerged as a major opposition force following the fall of communism.
Additionally, the 185th anniversary of the birth of Ion I. Câmpineanu is recognized. A prominent Romanian politician and founding member of the National Liberal Party, Câmpineanu served in several high-ranking capacities, including Minister of Justice, Minister of Finance, and Minister of Foreign Affairs. He was also the first governor of the National Bank of Romania and served as the Mayor of Bucharest.
