Romania Ministry of Finance reallocates 2 billion lei for healthcare

The Romanian Ministry of Finance has approved the reallocation of 2.058 billion lei to the healthcare sector. This measure involves shifting funds from the fourth quarter to the third quarter of 2026.

Finance Minister Alexandru Nazare stated that the rescheduling does not increase the total approved expenditure for the year. Instead, it brings forward existing budgeted resources to settle outstanding invoices for medical services, devices, and medications already provided to patients. The move aims to prevent potential financial difficulties and a funding standstill that could have occurred in October.

While the reallocation addresses immediate liquidity pressures, Nazare noted that it is not a solution to the structural funding issues within the healthcare system. He emphasized that budgetary flexibility must be paired with reforms, increased efficiency, and better expenditure control to ensure long-term stability.
