Romania: Luca Niculescu sworn in as Prime Minister FAST-MOVING
Following a five-month political deadlock, Luca Niculescu has been appointed Prime Minister of Romania. The new government, which received 280 votes in favor and 58 against in Parliament, is a minority cabinet composed of 18 ministers. The Social Democratic Party (PSD) holds 11 ministerial posts, while the remaining seven positions are held by independents.
Niculescu has identified several immediate priorities, most notably the completion of the National Recovery and Resilience Plan (PNRR) by the end of the year. He noted that approximately 3 billion euros could be injected into the Romanian economy through the PNRR. Other key objectives include accelerating the absorption of cohesion funds and preparing for the Multiannual Financial Framework (2028-2034), which involves stakes exceeding 60 billion euros for the country.
In his first official actions, Niculescu attended the handover of mandates at several ministries. He also emphasized the importance of fiscal discipline to manage the national deficit and pledged that the second pension pillar would remain unchanged to ensure economic predictability.
