Romania noise regulations and quiet hours in rural areas
Under Romanian Law no. 61/1991, specific quiet hours must be observed in rural areas to prevent public disturbance. The designated periods requiring special attention to silence are from 22:00 to 08:00 and from 13:00 to 14:00.
While these hours are strictly regulated, the law does not grant unlimited permission for loud noise during the rest of the day. Disturbing the peace through excessive shouting, loud music, or other disturbances can result in sanctions even outside the official quiet hours.
Neighbors are not required to wait until 22:00 to contact the police; if noise levels from daytime events are deemed excessive and cause clear discomfort to those nearby, authorities can be notified. Penalties for violating these noise regulations vary based on the specific circumstances and the nature of the disturbance.
