Romania passenger car sales grow 11.8% in August

Passenger car sales in Romania grew by 11.8% in August, reaching 68,544 new registrations. This marks the highest August registration figure since 2019.

The growth was driven largely by the electrified vehicle market (BEV and PHEV), which saw 18,967 units sold in August, a 27% increase compared to the previous year. Electrified vehicles accounted for 27.7% of the total market for the month. Year-to-date, electrified vehicle sales have risen by 34.1%.

Growth was observed across all sales channels: rental companies increased by 32%, companies by 13.1%, and private individuals by 9.9%. Total passenger car registrations for the year have reached 818,201, representing a 6.3% increase over the previous year.
