Romania pension system: dual employment and digital tools

In Romania, over half a million people hold multiple employment contracts to supplement their income. While paying social contributions from two different salaries can increase the eventual monthly pension amount, it does not reduce the number of years required to reach retirement age. For example, an individual earning 6,000 lei gross could see a pension of approximately 2,500 lei after 35 years of work; adding a second job with a 3,000 lei gross salary could increase that monthly pension by roughly 900 lei.

To facilitate pension management, the National House of Public Pensions (CNPP) has launched the MyCNPP mobile application. This free digital tool allows both employees and retirees to check their contribution periods, simulate future pensions, download electronic slips, and submit requests to territorial pension houses directly from a smartphone. The application is part of a broader digitalization effort to provide access to personal pension data without requiring in-person visits to government offices.
