Romania pension updates: Recalculations, aid, and collection rules
Pensioners in Romania face various administrative and financial developments regarding their benefits. The National House of Public Pensions (CNPP) has noted that if a postal worker cannot deliver a pension in person, the recipient has two working days after the last payment day of the month to collect it from a post office using the provided notice. Failure to do so requires a formal request for reordering the payment.
Regarding recalculations, the ‘Small Recalculation’ process for those with non-permanent income is ongoing, with an estimated 60,000 to 70,000 files remaining. This process could result in average increases between 50 and 300 lei. Additionally, certain pensioners with monthly incomes below 3,000 lei are eligible for financial support ranging from 300 to 500 lei, to be distributed on December 12, provided they meet specific residency and income criteria.
On the legal side, debt enforcement remains a significant issue. Under current law, bailiffs can request the CNPP to garnish up to one-third of a pensioner's monthly income to settle outstanding debts.
