Romania plans national Destination Management Organization to unify tourism
Romania is moving toward a more coordinated tourism strategy through the proposed establishment of a national Destination Management Organization (DMO). Interim Minister of Economy, Digitalization, Entrepreneurship, and Tourism, Irineu Darău, stated that a national DMO is necessary to prevent fragmented promotion and to better realize the country's vast tourism potential. The goal is to have a clear solution developed with industry stakeholders by the end of the year, with operationalization targeted for 2027.
On a local level, the city of Pitești has established its own DMO, named Visit Pitești. The organization, which includes the municipality as a founding member alongside six industry companies, is led by local councilor Tiberiu Irimia. The initiative aims to promote Pitești as a destination focused on tulips, technology, nature, and sports.
