Romania police officers and families face successive tragedies

Two separate tragedies involving Romanian police officers have been reported. Cătălina Rățoi has passed away following an illness, occurring just four months after the death of her son, Alexandru Rățoi. Alexandru, a 26-year-old police officer, died in March after a year-long struggle for life following serious injuries sustained during a mission.

In a separate incident, colleagues are commemorating the second anniversary of the death of Roberta Ungureanu. A 21-year-old officer originally from Gorj, Ungureanu died in August 2024 following a devastating road accident in Brașov County. While on duty and traveling to a police station, her vehicle was struck by a semi-trailer that had skidded on a wet road and entered the oncoming lane. Her death has prompted warnings from the Brașov County Police Inspectorate regarding road safety and driver caution.
