Romania faces a prolonged political deadlock as parties struggle to form a new government. President Nicușor Dan aims to nominate a prime minister by the end of next week, but no parliamentary majority has yet emerged.

Interim Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan has proposed a technocratic 'armistice' government to manage urgent administrative tasks, including the national budget, the PNRR closure, and economic stability ahead of S&P credit ratings assessments. Bolojan has also indicated that the PNL will not sabotage early elections if the President deems them necessary to break the impasse.

The PSD, led by Sorin Grindeanu, has rejected any coalition that does not include its members, stating they will only support a government led by or built around the party. Grindeanu has criticized Bolojan’s leadership style, comparing it to a 'CAP accountant'.

Diplomat Luca Niculescu has emerged as a potential candidate for Prime Minister. While UDMR leader Kelemen Hunor expressed willingness to support Niculescu subject to certain conditions, the PSD has reportedly rejected this option. Other potential candidates mentioned include Sorin Grindeanu and Alexandru Nazare.
