Romania releases 2026 National Evaluation results, showing drop in top scores

The Ministry of Education published the initial results of the 2026 National Evaluation on 30 June, a day earlier than scheduled. The exam was taken by 143 251 eighth‑grade students (96.6% participation). 79 % achieved an average of 5 or higher, down from 83 % the previous year. Only seven candidates earned a perfect overall average of 10 – the lowest number recorded since 2011. Perfect marks per subject were 398 in Romanian language, 102 in Mathematics and 86 in Mother‑tongue. Eight examinees were excluded for fraud, receiving a score of 1.

The two highest‑scoring schools, Andrei Șaguna in Brașov and Gheorghe Lazăr in Bucharest, both posted a mean of 9.48. County rankings varied: Bucharest led with a 7.68 average, followed by Cluj (7.38) and Prahova (83.5 % promotion rate, third nationally). Arad recorded the lowest promotion rate at 73 %. Brașov and Timiș counties reported no perfect 10 averages.

These figures are provisional; students may view their papers and file appeals from 1 July to 3 July. Final results, which determine high‑school admissions, will be released on 8 July.
