Romania promotes regional competitiveness to attract foreign investment

Romania is actively promoting its regional economic competitiveness to international investors, notably at the Expo Real 2026 trade fair in Munich. Sebastian Metz, Director General of AHK Romania, stated that the focus for the Romanian-German Chamber of Commerce and Industry has shifted from simply encouraging investment to helping investors identify the most suitable specific regions within the country.

The Romanian real estate market has matured significantly over the last decade, offering diverse segments including retail, office, industrial, and logistics. Major business hubs currently encompass approximately 4.5 million square meters of modern office space, with 3.5 million square meters located in Bucharest. The retail segment includes over 4.6 million square meters of modern commercial space.

Recent investment activity includes interest from German companies looking to expand and modernize production capacities, as well as strategic acquisitions in the industrial and defense sectors. For instance, the German defense company Rheinmetall has been involved in local industrial developments, such as the shipyard in Mangalia.
