NATO shifts military roles as US maintains critical but limited capabilities

NATO Supreme Allied Commander Europe, General Alexus Grynkewich, has announced that the United States will maintain ‘critical but more limited’ capabilities within the alliance. This shift involves European nations assuming greater military command, such as the northern flank and the Joint Command in Naples. Grynkewich emphasized that while a limited Russian military attack remains improbable, NATO is increasing intelligence sharing in response to recent hybrid warfare incidents and sabotage attempts.

In parallel, Romania is strengthening its economic ties with the United States. Romanian officials, including President Nicușor Dan and Finance Minister Alexandru Nazare, are discussing the creation of a Romania-US investment fund with the U.S. International Development Finance Corporation (DFC). The proposed fund aims to target strategic sectors such as energy, digital infrastructure, and critical minerals.

President Nicușor Dan also noted that Romania has provided technical responses to U.S. inquiries regarding troop distribution in Europe and has offered to share the costs of military operations as Washington reviews its continental presence.
