Romania public health reports water quality irregularities

Public health authorities in Romania have reported various issues regarding water quality and safety in different regions. In Ialomița County, the Public Health Directorate (DSP) conducted analyses on drinking water provided by Urban S.A. in Slobozia and four surrounding communes: Mărculești, Scânteia, Ciulnița, and Cosâmbești.

While the water is microbiologically safe and chemically compliant, investigations revealed irregularities in chlorine dosing. In Slobozia, residual chlorine levels slightly exceeded the legal limit, and turbidity was above the maximum allowed threshold. Conversely, in the rural distribution networks of Iazu, Scânteia, Ciulnița, Cosâmbești, and Mărculești, chlorine levels fell significantly below the minimum legal requirement of 0.1 mg/l.

In Satu Mare County, the DSP reported high rates of non-compliance in water samples. Approximately 87.5% of water samples tested from swimming pools were found to be non-compliant regarding physico-chemical parameters. Additionally, about 37% of drinking water samples from public networks or private requests were non-compliant. The report also noted 83 cases of transmissible diseases, including 59 cases of viral hepatitis A, with one outbreak identified in a rural area.
