Romania releases final 2026 National Evaluation results
The Ministry of Education published the final results of the 2026 Evaluarea Națională on 8 July. Participation reached 96.6 % of the 148 268 registered eighth‑grade students, and 79 % obtained averages of 5.00 or higher. Only seven candidates achieved the perfect average of 10 – three in Bucharest and one each in Iași, Mureș, Prahova and Gorj – a sharp decline from 85 perfect scores in 2025 and 74 in 2024.
A total of 14 176 contestations (4.79 % of papers) were processed. After re‑evaluation, 8 696 marks were raised and 4 265 were lowered. In Argeș County, the promotion rate settled at 81.4 % after adjustments; in Alba it rose marginally to 80.5 %. The map of perfect scores shows the concentration in the capital and a few other counties.
World Vision Romania warned that the exam’s outcomes could trigger school‑dropout risk, especially in rural Ialomița, where many students lack remedial support and face long commutes. In Gorj, stark gaps were reported between students’ long‑term school averages (often above 8) and their exam scores (some as low as 2.25), highlighting concerns over the sole reliance on the exam for high‑school admission.
The next step for candidates is the publication of the county‑level admission hierarchy on 9 July, which will determine each student’s position for the computerized high‑school placement scheduled for 22 July.
