Romania ranks fourth in Europe for cheap electronics purchases

According to the Fast Tech Consumer Study 2026, conducted by Bellegarde Scientific Consulting for the WEEE Forum, Romania ranks fourth among 12 European countries for the purchase of inexpensive electronic products. Approximately 92.1% of Romanians surveyed have purchased at least one such item, often referred to as ‘Fast Tech.’

This category includes small, low-cost electronic devices such as chargers, USB cables, wireless headphones, mini-fans, electronic toys, and lighting fixtures. While consumption is high, the study highlights a significant gap in sustainability: Romania ranks last among the analyzed nations regarding the exclusive use of recycling or reuse solutions for these products.

The research, based on a sample of 10,245 adults, notes a consumption paradox where the low initial cost of these items often outweighs their long-term utility, leading to increased electronic waste. The findings were released in the context of International E-Waste Day.
