Romania rejects Israeli minister's calls for violence in Gaza

Romanian interim Foreign Affairs Minister Oana Țoiu has condemned recent statements by Israeli National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir, describing them as ‘completely unacceptable.’ Ben-Gvir suggested that Israel should conduct ‘30-40 targeted assassinations per night’ in the Gaza Strip and advocated for the reconstruction of Israeli colonies and the encouragement of Palestinian emigration.

Țoiu stated that such calls for indiscriminate violence and dehumanization undermine international efforts to reach a peaceful resolution. She emphasized that respect for human rights is a fundamental principle of Romanian foreign policy and reaffirmed Romania’s support for a two-state solution.

Additionally, the Romanian minister criticized the Israeli government’s decision to advance the E1 settlement project through the construction of over 1,200 housing units. Țoiu warned that this project risks dividing the West Bank and noted that such settlements remain illegal under international law.
