Romania reports 12 transplants from three organ donors

Between October 15 and 19, three organ and tissue donations in Romania enabled a total of 12 transplants. The procedures took place at the Sibiu County Emergency Hospital and the Bucharest University Emergency Hospital.

In Sibiu, a 72-year-old brain-dead donor provided kidneys that were transplanted at the Cluj-Napoca Clinical Institute of Urology and Kidney Transplantation. In Bucharest, a 57-year-old brain-dead donor facilitated a liver transplant and two kidney transplants at the Fundeni Clinical Institute, as well as corneal transplants at the Prof. Dr. Mircea Olteanu Ophthalmological Emergency Clinical Institute.

Dr. Guenady Vatachi, head of the National Transplant Agency (ANT), noted that organ donation rates in Romania have seen a recovery following the COVID-19 pandemic. In 2025, the number of organ removals rose to 91, a 10% increase compared to the 83 removals recorded in the post-pandemic period.
