Romania: Murder suspect sought internationally amid drug prevention drives
Romania is seeing several significant law enforcement developments involving violent crime and public safety initiatives.
In a high-profile murder case, an international arrest warrant has been issued for Vlad Bălțățeanu. He is the primary suspect in the death of 28-year-old Valentina, whose body was discovered in a suitcase in the Olt River. Forensic examinations revealed severe head injuries and broken ribs, concluding the death was caused by traumatic and hemorrhagic shock. The suspect fled the country before the discovery.
In response to drug-related issues, the Teleorman County Police Inspectorate has launched a prevention campaign for the 2026-2027 school year titled ‘Nicio livrare nu merită viitorul tău!’ (No delivery is worth your future!). The initiative aims to educate students on the legal consequences of drug trafficking and how to recognize recruitment attempts by criminal networks. Similarly, the Gorj County Police Inspectorate concluded a crime prevention week featuring testimonies from former drug traffickers to warn youth about the social and legal impacts of substance abuse.
Other reported incidents include a 50-year-old driver from Argeș being detained after crashing a vehicle into a store in Gorj while driving with a high blood alcohol concentration of 1.49 mg/l. Additionally, a Bulgarian national was apprehended in Dolj County with 3 kg of cocaine and 11 kg of cannabis.
