Romania reports negative natural population growth in June 2026

Romania recorded a negative natural population increase of 7,247 people in June 2026, according to data from the National Institute of Statistics (INS). The number of registered deaths, totaling 19,039, was 1.6 times higher than the number of live births, which stood at 11,792.

While the number of births in June 2026 saw a 12.9% increase compared to May 2026, it represented a 7.5% decrease compared to June 2025. Conversely, the number of deaths rose by 1.1% compared to the previous month and 1.6% compared to June 2025.

Demographic breakdowns show that 41.4% of deaths occurred in individuals aged 80 and over, while 28.3% were in the 70-79 age group. In terms of marital status, 8,777 marriages and 2,374 divorces were recorded during the month.
