Romania labor market sees 160,000 new job postings in 2026

The Romanian labor market has seen 160,000 new job postings on the eJobs.ro platform during the first nine months of 2026. While recruitment remains active, there is a noted trend toward caution in team expansion due to economic conditions.

Competition for roles has intensified, with applications increasing by 27% compared to the previous year, resulting in an average of 65 candidates per job. The retail sector remains the most active employer with approximately 35,000 vacancies, followed by services, food industry, transport, logistics, and the financial-banking sector.

Conversely, sectors such as education, training, pharmaceuticals, real estate, energy, and advertising have seen lower recruitment activity. This is attributed to economic stagnation in certain areas or low employee turnover in specialized fields, which reduces the need for replacement hiring. Most job opportunities are concentrated in major cities including Bucharest, Brașov, and Cluj-Napoca, with a high volume of openings targeting entry-level candidates.
