Romania secures gas supply for heating season despite high prices
Natural gas storage levels in Romania have exceeded 80 percent, a figure higher than the European Union average, ensuring sufficient supply for the upcoming heating season. Despite adequate quantities, energy officials warn of significant price challenges.
Cristian Bușoi, State Secretary for Energy, noted that while volume is secure, gas prices are more than double compared to the same period last year. He cited Middle Eastern conflicts and disruptions in production capacities as primary drivers for the price increase. While industrial consumers face high costs, the government continues to regulate gas prices for household consumers to prevent unaffordable bills.
Bușoi emphasized the importance of liquefied natural gas from the United States for the European Union and expressed hope that prices will normalize as geopolitical tensions ease.
