Romania sets scholarship rates for 2026–2027 academic year
For the 2026–2027 academic year, various scholarship types and payment schedules have been established in Romania. According to ministerial decree 2026/5732, specific national minimum amounts have been set: social scholarships are set at a minimum of 925 lei per month, doctoral scholarships are 3,700 lei, and teacher training scholarships are 2,165 lei.
Performance scholarships for students in state-funded full-time university programs do not have a fixed national amount; instead, individual higher education institutions determine the value and specific criteria, such as academic excellence, scientific achievements, or innovation. These must be higher than the social scholarship amount.
Regarding payment timelines, the first scholarship disbursements for the academic year are expected on November 20. Educational institutions typically transfer funds on the 20th of each month for the preceding month. A proposed amendment to the public education law, which received unanimous support from the Senate's education committee, aims to allow students to receive academic and technological scholarships during school breaks, a benefit currently reserved only for social scholarships.
