Romania shifts from low-cost manufacturing toward innovation and high-tech growth

Romania is transitioning from a low-cost assembly hub to an innovation-driven economy focused on value creation. Dan Șucu, president of the Concordia Employers' Confederation, emphasized this shift at the European Forum for New Ideas, noting that the country has evolved into a vital part of Europe's industrial base, particularly in automotive, energy, and software sectors.

Recent data from the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Romania (CCIR) supports this economic evolution. In the top-ranked companies, employment has grown in high-tech and R&D sectors by 3.53%, alongside increases in construction and tourism. Geographically, Bucharest remains the primary economic hub, employing over 37% of the workforce within the nation's top-ranked firms, followed by Ilfov, Cluj, Timiș, and Brașov.
