Romania to launch digital healthcare platform on September 1

Starting September 1, Romania will launch a new stage of healthcare digitalization through the eSănătateaMea platform. This portal will allow patients nationwide to access their medical records, prescriptions, referral slips, and medical history online. It also aims to facilitate online appointments and provide a direct communication channel with health insurance houses.

To ensure security and prevent identity fraud, users must authenticate via the ROeID application, developed by the Romanian Digitalization Authority. The platform, which has already undergone testing in Oradea with the County Emergency Clinical Hospital and private providers, will feature 12 distinct modules. These modules will allow for the digital consultation and downloading of medical documents, such as referral slips, which specialists can then view directly within the system.

While the online appointment system will be rolled out gradually, medical service providers will be required to utilize the platform starting in the final quarter of 2026.
