e-SănătateaMea digital health portal launched in Romania

The National Health Insurance House (CNAS) has launched e-SănătateaMea, a new digital portal designed to centralize medical records, prescriptions, and appointment scheduling for patients in Romania. The platform aims to reduce reliance on paper documents and allow users to access their medical history and insurance details online.

Following the launch, the system has faced significant technical challenges. Users have reported difficulties with the ROeID digital identity authentication process, including session timeouts and delays. Medical professionals have also noted issues such as incomplete medical histories, inactive appointment modules, and a lack of clear usage guidelines.

In response to a backlog of approximately 25,000 identity validation requests, the Romanian Government has announced measures to increase capacity. The Authority for Digitalization of Romania (ADR) is adding 19 staff members to its existing team to resolve the backlog within a week. Authorities are also working toward long-term automated validation and alternative enrollment methods. Despite the digital transition, the national health insurance card remains valid, and use of the new digital system is not mandatory.
