Romania to launch e-SănătateaMea digital health platform in 2026

Romania is preparing for a major digital transformation in its healthcare system with the launch of the ‘e-SănătateaMea’ platform, scheduled for September 1, 2026. This new digital tool is designed to serve as a ‘digital health wallet’ for approximately 20 million potential users, centralizing medical history, prescriptions, referrals, and reimbursement records in one location.

The transition will involve the electronic identity card gradually replacing the current physical health card. Horațiu-Remus Moldovan, President of the National Health Insurance House (CNAS), clarified that the physical health cards will not disappear immediately; instead, the two documents can be used in parallel during a transition period. The change will occur incrementally as citizens update their identity documents.

The platform will feature various modules, including ‘My Package’ for medical history, a dedicated module for prescription tracking, and a module for verifying medical services reimbursed by CNAS. Technical preparations are already underway, with the CNAS-PIAS portal allowing healthcare providers to work with both the old health cards and the new electronic identity cards.
